For the past 9 years I have been associated with the Staffing Industry in Canada as a Consultant dealing
with Hiring Managers on one hand and Candidates applying for Jobs on the other. For 20 years before that I have been involved in diverse
industries at Senior Executive levels.
On an average daily, I receive around 100 - 200 resumes for every position we advertise on our website, job
boards, trade magazines, etc.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR YOU AS A JOB APPLICANT?
It simply means that your Resume is one amongst 100 - 200 resumes fighting for my attention. Your resume
needs to grab my attention in the first 5 - 7 seconds........
Do you understand the repurcussions?
In case your Resume is the standard run-of-the-mill resume, it will go in the LATER pile or NA pile.
So what is the basic mandate or objective of a Resume?
A Resume should be able to get me a Call for an Interview. That
is it! Your resume cannot get you a job, no matter how good it may be.
REQUEST: Please do not go out and pay a Professional Resume Writer around $300 -
$500 to write you a Superman Resume. It can only get you a Call for an Interview, it cannot get you a Job. Hope you understand what I
mean........
Which further Means that:
Your resume should stand out from the crowd
Your resume should grab the attention of the recruiter in the first 7 - 10 secs
Your resume should evoke the interest of the recruiter, such that they want to meet you in
person
Your resume should stimulate the recruiters interest in your profile
Your Resume should offer a lot more value than just skill sets
